Elsewhere, “The First Punch” is a high-octane workout smattered with strong pop hooks. “Hell Above” features rapid-fire leads and breakdowns as well as a huge chorus with a driving, danceable Mike Fuentes beat. San Diego’s Pierce the Veil have always been more adventurous than most of their post-hardcore peers, and the quartet’s knack for mixing compelling melodies with off-kilter guitar riffs remains intact on their third full-length.Ĭollide with the Sky is an appealing album that presents a more polished and mature iteration of the band’s signature sound.įrontman Vic Fuentes has described the disc as heavier than anything Pierce the Veil has ever done, and while there are definitely moments that bear that out, melody is never hard to find.
